Community Review Group

Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) established the Community Review Group in 2018 to help ensure that new development achieves the highest standards of quality and reflects community need, while giving local people a meaningful voice in the planning process.

Since then, the Group has reviewed a wide range of development proposals and strategic documents, including urban design, housing, industrial, transport and public realm and public art schemes. Its feedback is captured in formal reports submitted to OPDC and the Planning Committee, where it has helped shape planning decisions and influence the design of projects as they evolve.

Alongside this work, the Group supports its members to build skills relevant to the review process, including understanding urban design principles and reading architectural drawings.

Meetings

One Community Review Group meeting is provisionally scheduled for each month. These meetings may be used for formal reviews, intermediate reviews or Chair’s reviews, as appropriate. Exceptionally, additional meetings may be required to respond to specific requirements for advice at key points in the masterplan, policy development, planning application and delivery programme.

Management of the group

Independent and impartial, the Community review Group is run by an established company that manages design and community review groups in London, Frame Projects.

The processes for managing the Community Review Group such as appointing members and the administration of meetings are agreed in partnership with OPDC.

Community Review Group members follow the same code of conduct that OPDC planning officers follow. For example, they must keep all information confidential, except for reports that are in the public domain.
